Christmas Drive

Relatives, as you may know the Christmas Drive for the children of the Sicangu Oyate has started. The success of the toy drive lies within the hearts of everyone caring about our children who may otherwise be without during this joyous Holiday. We relize that many are financially limited due to the economy. Please do what is possible. We are asking for donations of one's choice. If possible, Chrismas tree lights and/or decorations. Last year we delivered fully decorated trees to families who were without. All monetary donations may be made payable to RST Chairman's Christmas drive, and mailed to:

PO Box 430
Rosebud, SD 57570

Newsrelease

The RST Chairman’s office is proud to announce that the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in partnership with Citizens Wind of Boston, Massachusetts is the recipient of a Department of Energy grant of 1.5 Million dollars to assist in all of the pre-construction activities to develop a 190 Mw Wind Farm on the highlands North of Antelope/Mission area on tribal trust lands. This is a 50% cost share grant obligation with Citizens Wind bringing forth the other 1.5 Million for the estimated cost of 3 million dollars to complete the preconstruction work. The preconstruction work involves the completion of all environmental reviews required, including avian and bat studies, wildlife surveys, visual simulations, noise effect, FAA and any other NEPA related permits and approvals due, the completion of a Class I and Class III archeological review on all lands affected, an ethnographic review, collecting and analyzing wind data, secure financing, secure turbines, negotiate and secure a power purchase agreement, engineering design and right of ways on roads and turbine layout, interconnection studies and develop financial structures to reap the optimum economic dollar for the tribe. There will be scheduling of community meetings to inform the public on the development and to build support for project. The objectives of the project are to develop a self-sustainable business on the reservation to foster jobs primarily and to create maximum economic development benefits to the RST and its members without the tribe assuming any economic risk. Based on the assumed values of the wind data and of a power purchase agreement price at $47.50 per Mwh, the tribe could see an annual revenue stream in the first full year of $2.58 million escalating at 2.5% of the PPA price, annually for 20 years. Anticipated time line to build is in the spring of 2012. Estimated project cost is about 400 Million dollars.
